Are you an organized, self-motivated individual with solid experience in book publishing production? Put your skills to use on our ESRI Press team overseeing a production staff of seven in all aspects of book and associated media production. This is a challenging opportunity to apply your project management skills to perform production scheduling and workflow and collaborate with managers and other supervisors on product plans, strategies, and processes.
This position requires a bachelor’s degree in humanities, social sciences, or the sciences; a minimum of five years of demonstrated performance in content and graphics-rich, four-color book publishing production and design; and a minimum of three years of demonstrated performance in supervisory capacity.

Reprint Coordinator/Archive Assistant
Pearson Education is seeking an experienced Reprint Coordinator/Archive Assistant to join an established production team in a fast-paced and stable work environment.

This position is 75% coordinating reprint corrections for higher education science textbooks and 25% archiving of electronic media. Working under the Content and Information Manager, responsibilities are for coordinating the workflow: from corrections submitted by editors and authors, to submitting corrections to be done by vendors, all the way through printing. Other responsibilities will include archiving the division's electronic content and printed titles, as well as fulfilling requests for electronic files. Workflow is mostly electronic with very little exchanges of printed material or media such as disks, so candidate must be comfortable working in this medium.

Freelance Proofreaders
Pearson Science, a division of Pearson Education, is looking for experienced freelance proofreaders for their college textbooks. We are looking for proofreaders who have experience working on college-level, science textbooks in biology, physics, anatomy/physiology, astronomy, nutrition, and health. Experience proofreading math notation is a plus. The books range from 500-1,500 pages, and chapters are delivered to the proofreader in batches of 50-150 pages over a period of time that varies depending on the project. Proofreaders are paid on a per page rate. We consider proofreading to include checking pages against the copyedited manuscript, making sure that the typography and layout matches the design, and checking the material against provided text, art, and math stylesheets for mistakes and inconsistencies.
Interested candidates should be willing to take a proofreading test and provide a resume with the following information:
- Full contact information including a mailing address
- Any experience you have proofreading science textbooks and proofreading math notation
- Your desired rate for proofreading

Regional Publisher
University of California Press is creating the position of Regional Publisher to build on its long tradition of publishing books on California and the West. The position will be responsible for expanding and sharpening UC Press's regional list by forging institutional partnerships, acquiring major regional reference and trade projects, exploring opportunities to develop digital products, and defining the overall program by coordinating with current editors who acquire regional titles and with sales representatives and marketing staff who sell the list.
The successful candidate must have demonstrated leadership and business/financial skills, a strong marketing background, and the entrepreneurship to envision and build a regional program of the first rank. A significant track record in acquisitions and a proven interest in regional publishing are important. Organizational and interpersonal skills are required to successfully cultivate relationships with outside institutions and to collaborate with other in-house staff. Primary Job Description
Stanford University Press needs a half-time, two-year term Art and Design Manager to work in conjunction with the current Manager maintaining current design pathways and protocol in the Design Department to facilitate maximum quality standards, productivity and cost efficiencies in a university press environment.
This position entails supervising book cover design throughput for approximately 175 titles per year in disciplines including Humanities, Middle Eastern and Asian Studies, Business, and Law.
Core Job Responsibilities
- Manage cover design process within the Editorial, Marketing and author book team achieving overall individual book design goals. Work with Production Manager ensuring each cover file is created according to the production budget, schedule, and printer specifications.
- Design a designated percentage of cover design in-house, along with staff designer and off-site Art Director.
- Assess current and potential freelance designers on an on-going basis.
- Attend weekly production launch meetings, and cover meetings called for marketing-designated high priority titles
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Thorough familiarity with all phases of book production, including in-depth knowledge of desktop publishing, and strong design vision and implementation.
- Power user of Adobe Creative Suite; familiarity with QuarkExpress.
- Ability to identify problems swiftly when they arise and to exercise good judgment in developing solutions.
Experience Requirements
BA or BS and five or more years of significant and progressively challenging publishing experience, preferably within an educational or academic setting. Previous supervisory experience and a fluent level of software proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, (Illustrator, Photoshop InDesign), cross-platform issues, word-processing required. Must possess exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to work on deadline and manage a number of assignments at once; above average writing and editing skills a must. This individual must have outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills, the ability to work well with staff, vendors and suppliers, and a proven record of working cooperatively and flexibly as part of a team.
